Sorry Methanoid, I never actually went ahead with this build for cost reasons. I ended up re-using my Antec case and putting roughly the same bits in that for much less: http://www.stephenbeattie.com/2009/05/24/upgrading-the-core-of-my-htpc/

I am not sure about the 1080p playback. My system only just copes, and is almost identical, if not slightly faster. Depends on the graphics card I suppose. How much is a sata DVD? My so was only 15. You could upgrade that and ditch the adaptor.

Yeah, the single core Atom models are probably a bit underpowered. The Eeebox B208 (dual-core Atom 330) looks pretty tasty though.

http://www.liliputing.com/2009/03/asus-launches-eee-box-b208-with-windows-vista-and-hd-video.html

We'll have to wait and see the UK pricing though - I suspect it's likely to be £400+ in which case not such good value.

I wish Asus (and others) would take a leaf out of Apple's book and ship only a few bits of kit, fully-specced but competitively priced for volume sales instead of trying to hit every price-point with a short-lived model. It gets confusing with all the variations of the same thing and you're always left waiting for the next model because the current one only does 90% of what you need.

[...] And so, the XML simply defines a form to be rendered but also, the fact that we have a record of the structure of the stored content means that we can use this to publish content from the database into HTML (by means of templating), XML (by using the ‘id’ attribute of each property node as the tag names) and even to an SQLite database. Since SQLite supports only a few simple data types I was able to simply map the property types (taking into account their validation rules) and create an SQLite database for each Collection on the fly. This proved to be an ideal solution for reasons I’ve mentioned before. [...]
